We stayed here last weekend - we chose it based on the reviews - and were pleasantly surprised! I would give it four and a half stars if I could, but since I can't I'm going with four. So here is why I gave it four stars - You can't beat the price - seriously, you just can't. The owners are very friendly. Yes the place is a little worn (it's old!) but it's charming! The location is great - St. Ignace is a small town and pretty much everything of importance is within walking distance. The view is wonderful - the balcony is a perfect place to hang out and watch fireworks. If you want to watch TV then you're in luck - cable and HBO. Something else I was happy about was that they give you all Bath and Body Works soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. Lastly, the room was cleaned well, and we always had fresh towels. The only reasons I am not giving five stars is because before we left we were showering and packing, and the cleaning lady kept trying to get in our room. The first time I just laughed and yelled that we hadn't checked out yet (we still had 30 minutes until we had to). Then she came back a couple minutes later with a key trying to open the door! I was still not dressed from my shower so I just yelled again that we weren't checked out yet and she apologized and left us alone. It really wasn't a big deal - we laughed about it quite a bit actually. The other reason is that the walls are thin - we were woken up our first night by the people below us yelling at their neighbors that they could hear their TV. Also, we were in Room 7 and the wifi only worked on the balcony - not a huge deal but somewhat annoying. All in all, we would 100% stay here again!

My husband and I stayed here two nights and three days in mid-September, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We stayed on the third floor in the "Island View" room, which was lovely, though the bathroom is TINY and cramped. We loved, loved, loved the second-floor balcony porch and spent a lot of time reading and relaxing out there. It gives you a perfect view of the ferries coming in and going out and passengers disembarking. As others have mentioned, it's a great location in many ways. It's a little noisy because it's right on the main drag, but we found the sound-proofing in the room was ok, so that wasn't a bother. But on the plus side, it's right across from one of teh ferry lines, and it's right in the middle of a number of great places for groceries, dinner or ice cream and fudge - many are within a quarter-mile walk. Breakfast was fine, though I think they just reheat some things in the microwave. But the breakfasts were tasty and filling and they make available snacks and cold drinks 24/7. The staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive in any way. I would definitely get a room here again.

We were looking for a reasonable and different experience than our normal Holiday and Hampton Inn which get very expensive when you are in a tourist area. My first impression when we pulled up in front was "oops, what have I done" as the exterior(although quaint) is looking shabby and in need of paint and some repairs. What a pleasant surprise when we got our room in the "motel" section. Very clean, thoughtfully decorated, freshly renovated with all the things you would expect from a fine hotel. All the lighting was new and a quiet ceiling fan above the bed. Working decorative electric fireplace as well. Our unit was a King bed 2 room suite. Price for this area was extremely reasonable around $70. I would definitely recommend and would stay here again when and if we get the opportunity.

What a find! We recently stayed here for 3 nights while visiting the UP and our stay was great. We had a larger room (not in the original house portion) that slept 3. It was very spacious and we even had a loveseat, 3 person dining table and a TV. The room was comfortable and clean and conveniently located across the street from the Arnold Ferry and in the middle of Downtown St Ignace which made for a nice evening walk. There is also a nice garden area in the front of the Inn where you can enjoy a morning coffee (or in our case, an evening ice-cream) which enjoying the beautiful view of the water. I had thought I would be a little bummed staying in St Ignace as opposed to Mackinac Island, but I would definitely pick this nice and economical option over the island.

A very cute town offering even cuter inn! Can't beat the location, just across the ferry dock.. The place is in the middle of the small downtown if St Ignace n yet is so peaceful and calming when you see the lake from your window or porch.. Thanks for the earlier reviews peeps which helped me getting here :)

The gf and I stayed for two nights in the island view room. We loved our stay. Our room was very clean, the bed comfortable, and breakfast was pretty good. When we asked for something (ice, coffee, cork screw) our hosts were very helpful and friendly. My only complaints would be that the wifi signal wasn't very strong on the 3rd floor where we stayed and a window was missing a screen, which may have been a bigger issue had it been warmer outside and we needed more airflow. The exterior of the building could have used some work as well, but that didn't bother me and kind of adds to the "colonial charm". I would definitely stay again. After seeing the other rooms I think I would probably choose to stay in the birdseye or antique room as both were very impressive and would be well worth the price.

Cute little place-- better than any of the other hotels/motels we saw in St. Ignace. The location is great-- right in the middle of downtown, across from the lake. The rooms are clean and comfortable-- and it was nice to be able to sit out on the porch and enjoy the view and a glass of wine (or the tasty sugar cookies the innkeepers made). The breakfast is fine-- the innkeepers made blueberry pancakes and sausages when I was there. I was surprised how many people were ate the breakfast. I'm pretty sure that some of the motel guests paid extra to eat here. I'd stay again, especially considering the price--less than $100 a night!

After a looooooooong drive ( I was 6 months pregnant, we had to stop for snacks and bathrooms.) We finally made it!! It was a very nice bed and breakfast. It's a Victorian style mansion right on the edge. You can see Mackinac Island from there. They didn't tell us about the bed sizes and assumed that we would just fit. When I showed up a A BIG 6 months pregnant they were like I don't think that bed is going to fit both of you. We were like why cause it is a FULL size. You are going to offer 2 adults a full size bed? Well they upgraded us to a queen. Thank goodness the next night the party canceled and we got to stay in the room. The rooms were nicely decorated and clean. It is right across the harbor from a boat that will take you to Mackinac Island. The location of the place is why we choose it. I don't remember the breakfast. But they did have some school work exchange girls there working with them. Oh now I remember, bacon, eggs, coffee, juices and fruits. There were lots of people coming in and out. I saw a couple doing there honeymoon there. Check it out for yourself. colonial-house-inn.com/i… I don't remember seeing a house cat either. Which I am beginning to think is a trademark for the bed and breakfast.

An excellent stay in adorable St Ignace. This is our second trip here. We stayed in the Antique room last time and in the Cherry suite this time. Great stays both times. Actually the breakfast entree has been meh 1 of 2 days both times, but the coffee juices and fresh fruit make up for it. Complimentary fresh cookies and bottles of water hang out in the kitchen. Perfect location for the ferry to the island (across the street). Lots of parking, walk to nearby restaurants, and the excellent pie and ice cream place on the right is, we'll, excellent! There is NO better place to watch the Saturday fireworks than this b&b. A cup of hot chocolate and a blanket on the balcony at 10pm - it's perfection! It's quiet and relaxing, just really pleasant.
